Hungary's prime minister Viktor Orbán said in an interview with the country's public radio station on 30 October 2015 that the European Union's quota system distributing asylum seekers had been decided without respect for public opinion, which could cause a 'democracy crisis' in the continent. Hungary sealed off its southern borders and cited a threat to European culture and Christian values from an influx of hundreds of thousands of mostly Muslim refugees into the European Union. Later in the month, the Hungarian parliament approved a resolution which would allow the country to take the quota system before the European Court of Justice, similar to the decision taken by Slovakia. |
