Oettinger urges Council to move fast on audiovisual reform

European Commissioner Günther Oettinger urged the Council of the European Union to speed up the talks concerning the Audiovisual Media Services Directives (AVMSD), following a meeting on 18-19 May 2015.

The Commission intended to propose a reform to the AVMSD directive in early 2016 as part of the broad Digital Single Market plans it presented early in May.

The Audiovisual Directive sets out rules for European television broadcasters and on-demand services on advertising, the ratio of European to non-European content shown, hate speech and protection of minors. The last directive was passed in 2007.
