President Barack Obama dismissed on 5 June 2014 any prospect that he might intervene to help BNP Paribas bank, which risked losing one of its most senior executives over US allegations of sanctions busting.

The French government warned that if US regulators imposed a record-breaking fine of $10 billion (€7.34 billion) against the bank, the talks for the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) might be affected.
