The Nuclear Industrial Strategy, launched on 26 March 2013, is part of a series of industrial strategies across a number of sectors to be published by Government and co-created with industry. The Strategy sets out the Government’s clear expectation that nuclear will play a significant role in the UK energy mix in the future. The Government sees the domestic new build and wider nuclear market as an essential platform to further enhance the UK nuclear commercial base and grow global market share. It was announced on the 21 October 2013 that the UK government had given the go-ahead for the UK's first new nuclear station in a generation. France's EDF Energy would lead a consortium, which also included Chinese investors, to build the Hinkley Point C plant in Somerset. |
