In a new report published in March 2017, Open Europe concluded that leaving the EU’s Customs Union was the only logical step for the UK to pursue an independent trade policy and achieve a truly ‘Global Britain’ outside the EU.

Open Europe assessed different models of collaboration outside a customs union, and argued that the UK and the EU should aim for full cooperation on the practicalities and administration of customs as part of a comprehensive UK-EU free trade deal.
