The Local.fr reported that Belgium temporarily reintroduced border controls with France on the 23 February 2016 to halt the arrival of migrants from the Calais 'Jungle' camp. This was seen as another blow to the EU's passport-free Schengen travel area. On the 25 February 2016 the Lille Administrative Court ruled that the French authorities could evict migrants from their tents and lean-tos in part of the 'Jungle' camp. The authorities wished to move migrants to alternative accommodation in a specially created container park and other reception centres. Work began on the 29 February 2016 to clear the shanty town.
