Summary: Throughout the years, Moldova's economy has been affected by political instability, exacerbated by perceptions of corruption as well as drought, the unstable relations between Russia and Ukraine, and trade restrictions imposed by Russia after Moldova an Association Agreement with the European Union in 2014. The economy of this small former Soviet republic has therefore been strongly influenced by its proximity to both the EU and Russia. |
