Previews and reports of a historic joint speech by Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany and President Francois Hollande of France to the European Parliament in Strasbourg on the 7 October 2015. EurActiv reported that the main political motivation behind the joint speech was to promote the reform of the governance of Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) at an EU level. The current situation in the European Union and challenges to be tackled together, and notably migration, were at the heart of the actual speeches and subsequent debate between European Parliament political group leaders, President of the French Republic François Hollande and Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany Angela Merkel on the 7 October 2015 EurActiv reported in February 2016 that France and Germany were preparing a joint proposal regarding the future of the Eurozone, to be present by the end of the year. |
