Medvedev sacks Hermitage tax case official

A Russian interior ministry official who played a central role in a scandal surrounding one of the largest foreign investors in the country was fired by President Dmitry Medvedev, December 2009.

The sacking of General Anatoly Mikhalkin, the head of the tax crime division of the Moscow office of the Interior Ministry, was 'indirectly linked' to a probe ordered in November 2009 by Mr Medvedev into the death of a lawyer in the case, Sergei Magnitsky, according to a Kremlin official.
