Jourová: Over 6000 Europeans waging jihad in Syria

European Union's Justice Commissioner Věra Jourová stated during an interview with French newspaper Le Figaro on 13 April 2015 that over 6000 Europeans could be fighting with jihadist groups in Syria.

Ms Jourová added the true number was likely to be far higher due to the difficulty of tracking foreign fighters in the conflict.

She said the EU strategy was to promote prevention as a means of curtailing the steady flow of European nationals, looking at the diverse reasons of why people joined jihadist groups beyond simply religion.
