The EU High Representative, the Foreign Minister of Iran, together with the Foreign Ministers of the E3+3 (China, France, Germany, the Russian Federation, the United Kingdom and the United States), met from 26 March to 2nd April 2015 in Switzerland. As agreed in November 2013, they gathered to find solutions towards reaching a comprehensive resolution that would ensure the exclusively peaceful nature of the Iranian nuclear programme and the comprehensive lifting of all sanctions. In a statement issued late on the 2 April 2015 the countries announced that they had taken a decisive step by reaching solutions on key parameters of a Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). The world powers and Iran would aim to draft a comprehensive nuclear accord by 30 June 2015. The International Crisis Group said in a statement 'This agreement could turn out to be the most important diplomatic accomplishment in a generation. To secure and sustain it, the parties will have to display the same dedication and discipline that brought them this far'. |
