The VII meeting in the framework of the EU-Peru Bilateral Consultation Mechanism took place on Wednesday 1st February in Lima, Peru. It is a high-level political dialogue forum in which both sides discuss areas of common interest. Human rights, the fight against the global problem of drugs, climate change, regional and cross-border development, economic and trade issues as well as academic and scientific cooperation were among the topics discussed. During the meeting, Peru and the EU exchanged views on recent political and economic developments. Peru referred to its efforts to lay down the basis for developing a modern, integrated and sustained State and stressed its interest to improve the quality of public policies. They also reaffirmed their commitment to continue strengthening cooperation and coordination to address the world drug problem. In conclusion of the meeting, both sides agreed that important advances had been made in their political and economic relations as well as in their cooperation and stressed the importance of deepening further their relationship. |
