Italy’s Northern League calls for EU to be ‘demolished’

Feature looks at the reinvention and rise of the Northern League in Italy as a national political party under its new leader Matteo Salvini.

Seen as very critical of the 'Brussels establishment' and pro-Vladimir Putin of Russia. Mr Salvini said on the 10 December 2014 'We want to exit the euro'.

[The populist Five Star Movement also announced plans on the 10 December 2014 to launch a petition on the 13 December 2014 calling for a referendum on whether Italy should drop the euro, which it described as a currency developed for 'Germany and financial oligarchies'].
