Article reports that Silvio Berlusconi’s centre-right government was plunged on the 7 October 2009 into its deepest crisis since coming to office 18 months earlier when Italy’s Constitutional Court ruled that a law passed by parliament giving the prime minister immunity from prosecution was unconstitutional.

The verdict could reopen corruption trials against him.
