Israel re-emphasised in January 2016 that it would continue a policy of barring the Swedish foreign minister Margot Wallström from visiting Israel due to her comments relating to the Occupied Territories and the status of Palestinians. The ban was highlighted on 13 January 2016, following Mrs Wallström remarks in the Swedish parliament calling for an investigation into whether Palestinian assailants had been victims of 'extrajudicial killings', connected to lone wolf knife attacks on the rise in Israel. The suggestion was met with fury from Israel's foreign ministry, which called her remarks 'irresponsible and delusional'. The decision to reject Ms Walström's entry into Israel was therefore a reaction to her criticism on how the country handles Palestinian knife attackers. |
