Article reports that Ireland returned to growth in the first quarter of 2010 after experiencing one of the deepest recessions of any advanced industrialised economy – and having embarked upon one of the biggest fiscal adjustment programmes.

The growth was based on increased exports. The domestic economy, however, continued to contract as household and Government spending declined and construction and other business investment remained in decline.
