Ireland calls vote on European treaty

Article reported that it was announced on the 28 February 2012 that Ireland would hold a referendum on the eurozone fiscal treaty, plunging Europe into months of uncertainty and potentially placing a question mark over Ireland’s future membership of the euro.

Ireland's Prime Minister ('Taoiseach'), Enda Kenny, said it was in Ireland's national interest that the treaty be approved and he was confident the referendum would be passed.
