The Council of the European Union and the European Parliament reached on 7 February 2017 an informal agreement regarding the text of a proposal on cross-border portability of online content services in the internal market. The draft law allows consumers who have subscribed or bought online content services in their home country to access it when temporarily in another country within the European Union. The proposal was put forward by the European Commisison in December 2015. The Council adopted its negotiating position in May 2016 and started negotiations with the Parliament following the adoption of its own position in November. The compromise text still needed formal endorsement by the two institutions. |
