Iceland is pushing February 2010 to reopen negotiations with Britain and the Netherlands over €3.9bn lost in the failed Icesave online bank in an attempt to avoid a destabilising referendum in March 2010 on the issue.

Article reports that the Icelandic government is close to an agreement with opposition parties on a fresh repayment plan that could be presented to the British and Dutch governments soon.

UK and Dutch officials have privately indicated they are willing to consider changes to the agreement but made clear that Reykjavik must first ensure domestic backing.
