Four people died, including a police officer, and at least 20 people were injured in a major terror attack outside the Houses of Parliament, in London on the 22 March 2017. The alleged perpetrator, who had driven a car at speed on the pavement across Westminster Bridge hitting many pedestrians and then attempted to gain entry into the House of Parliament and stabbed a policieman, was shot dead by an armed police officer at the scene. Scotland Yard (the name of the police force in London) said that they suspected 'Islamist-related terrorism' was behind the attack. On the 24 March 2017 the attacker was named as Khalid Masood, who had been born in Britain and originally called Adrian Russell Ajao, and who had had used various names over the years. The police continued to carry out investigations as to motivations and connections, searching various properties in the Midlands and elsewhere, and arresting a number of people. |
