Uncertainty grew in the spring of 2017 about an EU-US trade deal that some in the US felt would be more important to its interests than a post-Brexit deal with Theresa May. The prospect of a revived EU-US trade deal was in 'deep freeze', according to EU sources.

The subject was not raised by either side during the visit of US President Trump to NATO and the EU in May 2017.
