Alina Bica, chief prosecutor of Romania's Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT), was detained in November 2014 over charges of malfeasance in office for actions committed during her tenure in the Central Commission for Establishing Compensations, where she represented the Ministry of Justice. The detention followed other detentions of high-level officials in the previous months and was expected to influence an upcoming report of the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism (CVM). This mechanism was established by the European Union to help Romania mend deficiencies in its law enforcement system. |
