Greece owes drugmakers 1.1 billion euros – and counting

Greece accumulated mounting debts with international drugmakers and was owing the industry over €1.1 billion, according to Richard Bergström, director general of the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations.

Mr Bergström added that his federation members had not been paid by Greece since December 2014 and were discussing options with EU authorities in the event Greece defaults on its debt or leaves the euro zone, disrupting imports of vital goods, including medicines.
