Members of Germany's eurosceptic AfD hoped they've put a contentious power struggle behind them by electing conservative Frauke Petry their leader in July 2015. She had previously shared the role with co-founder and AfD rival Bernd Lucke.

Commentators suggested that the move signalled a shift in focus to immigration from AfD's anti-euro origins.
