EUObserver reported that the German government planned to set up a special committee in the Bundestag to fast-track euro-related decisions, as the legislature will be given a veto right on every future bail-out following a ruling by the country's constitutional court on the 7 September 2011. Under the legislative proposal, a new sub-committee of Bundestag's Budgetary Croup will be empowered to give its assent in situations where extreme speed is required. However, Germany's Federal Constitutional Court expressed doubts on the 28 October 2011 about the legality of the new panel of lawmakers set up by the German parliament to reach quick decisions on the release of funds from the euro bailout mechanism, the European Financial Stability Facility (EFSF). The court issued a temporary injunction banning the nine-person committee in the Bundestag from taking any decisions on the EFSF's deployment of German taxpayer money. |
