Germany, France and Italy unite to boost EU growth

State Secretaries for European Affairs, Michael Roth (Germany), Harlem Désir (France) and Sandro Gozi (Italien) met for trilateral consultations on the 30 July 2014 in Berlin.

The focus of the talks were the topics of growth and employment, migration and asylum policy as well as the rule of law and fundamental values.

They published a joint Statement 'For a European Union of values and solidarity, of prosperity and competitiveness'.

EUObserver reported on the 5 August 2014 that French President Francois Hollande said Germany should do more to support growth as France struggled to bring its budget deficit to within the EU threshold.
