Germany's Bundestag (Parliament) voted on the 27 June 2014 to revise the country's green power subsidies and surcharges system, ostensibly to rein in costs. Critics say households will foot the bill for 45% renewables in Germany by 2025.

On the previous day, Sigmar Gabriel, the German economy and energy minister, remained tough in the country's squabble with the European Commission over its Renewable Energies Act (EEG), saying the latest demands from Brussels would prompt the de-industrialisation of Germany.
