German President Joachim Gauck won’t run for a second term in office

Germany's president Joachim Gauck announced on 6 June 2016 he had decided no to run for a second term in the office, raising yet another problem for chancellor Angela Merkel regarding his replacement.

Mr Gauck justified the decision with his age and the uncertainty over whether he would be able to provide the same energy to the job for another 5 years.
