Chancellor Angela Merkel condemned the arrest on the 27 February 2017 calling the decision Yucel in investigative custody 'bitter and disappointing'. Developments in 2018 After being detained for a year without any charges brought against him Deniz Yücel was released in February 2018 after significant Germany-Turkey diplomatc negotiations. The German government welcomed the news, but warned that other reporters, among them Germans, remained in detention. |
