German government pushes for ‘Europeanisation’ of arms industry

Germany's Minister of Economic Affairs Sigmar Gabriel announced on the 19 August 2014 his intention to accelerate consolidation and Europeanisation of Germany's arms industry.

EurActiv Germany wrote that Mr Gabriel had vowed a much more cautious approach to licensing arms exports, unnerving the sizeable defence industry in Germany and signalling a change in policy from the previous coalition government under which sales rose.
