German exports showed an unexpectedly large 7% surge in June 2009, raising hopes of an early end to the recession in Europe’s largest economy.

The news announced on the 7 August 2009 came a day after the German economics ministry had reported industrial orders leapt by 4.5% in June 2009, extending a 4.4 per cent rise in the previous month. Export orders largely powered the rise.
