The German government saw its recently adopted fiscal stimulus augmented by €7.5bn on the 9 December 2008 after the Federal Constitutional Court ordered the government to reintroduce a tax allowance for commuters scrapped just two years ago.

Germany is to re-introduce billions of euros in income-tax relief after the nation's highest court ruled that Chancellor Angela Merkel's government had unconstitutionally altered a tax exemption.
