But Chancellor Merkel's CDU won the election but their FDP coalition partners did not reach the necessary electoral threshold and the CDU would need new coalition partners. The eurosceptic Alternative for Germany party (AfD) won 10% of the vote, giving it either 13 or 14 seats. The AfD had capitalised on voter concerns about asylum seekers in its campaign. |
