French revive DSK’s presidential hopes

French Socialists revived hopes of a presidential bid by Dominique Strauss-Kahn in 2012 after doubts emerged in July 2011 over allegations that the former International Monetary Fund chief assaulted a New York chambermaid.

Some Socialist party members called for the primary race for the Socialists to choose a presidential candidate to be suspended until Mr Strauss-Kahn’s fate became clearer. Candidates had until 14 July 2011 to lodge their bids with a vote expected on the 16 October 2011.
