A French court cancelled on 2 July 2015 the suspension of veteran far-right leader Jean-Marie Le Pen from the National Front party which he founded. This decision was later upheld by another court. His daughter and now party leader, Marine Le Pen, had him excluded from the FN in April 2015, following his controversial remarks describing Nazi gas chambers as a 'mere detail of history.' On the 20 August 2015 the executive committee of the National Front again decided to expel Jean-Marie Le Pen from the party. Mr Le Pen vowed to keep up his legal fight. Marine Le Pen planned to run for the French presidency in 2017 after large gains for the FN in national, regional and European elections. Jean-Marie Le Pen announced on the 5 September 2015 his intention to create a new far-right faction, distinct from the National Front (FN) party. |
