French far-right National Front leader Marine Le Pen announced on the 7 April 2015 that she would 'oppose' her party-founding father Jean-Marie Le Pen in regional elections due in December 2015 following recent inflammatory comments. French political scientist Bruno Cautres from Sciences Po university told The Local.fr that Marine Le Pen had to ditch her father before the 2017 presidential elections. On the 9 April 2015 Marine Le Pen moved a step closer to pushing her father out of the National Front when she announced that he would face a party disciplinary hearing after his series of inflammatory interviews. Her father vowed to 'go on the attack'. Jean-Marie Le Pen announced on 13 April 2015 he would not run in the regional election to take place later in the year. His grand-daughter, Marion Marechal-Le Pen, was set to become his replacement. On the 4 May 2015 Jean-Marie Le Pen was suspended from the National Front after a he had faced a disciplinary hearing. |
