Background and further information:

The report unveiled record levels of relocations in June 2017 and a scenario in which almost all member states undertook transfers of migrants from the hotspots regularly. However, the document also points out that more efforts were needed to accelerate relocation from Italy, in view of the situation in the Central Mediterranean route. Good progress was reported regarding resettlement from camps outside Europe.

The European Commission decided on the same day to take forward the infringement procedures against the Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland for failing to meet their legal obligations on relocation.
