Two people were killed and eight more injured in a knife attack on the 18 August 2017 in the Finnish city of Turku. Police shot and apprehended a suspect shortly after the attack began. Investigators initially said it was not clear whether or not the attack was terror-related. On the 19 August 2017 the police said that the apprehended suspect, who was hospitalised, was an 18 year old Moroccan male, who had been in the asylum seeking process. Finland's National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) confirmed that the knife attack was being investigated as murder and attempted murder with a terrorist intent. Police believed the attacker targeted women. Four further Moroccan men were also detained. |
