In the aftermath of the terrorist attacks in Brussels on the 22 March 2016, the Netherlands EU Presidency convened an extraordinary meeting of ministers for justice and security and representatives of the EU institutions in Brussels on the 24 March 2016. The meeting was intended to show solidarity with Belgium, discuss the actual state of play in the fight against terrorism and pursue swift completion and implementation of legislation. During the meeting, ministers and representatives of EU institutions expressed their support and solidarity to Belgium, its people and the city of Brussels. They reaffirmed that the European Union stand determined to fight against terrorism. While recognising the substantial progress already made at Member State and EU level to enhance the Union's collective ability to combat terrorism, ministers outlined, in a joint statement, the further actions needed. |
