Europe’s Deadly Borders: An Inside Look at EU’s Shameful Immigration Policy

Feature published by Spiegel Online International in September 2014 analysed the reality and the challenges facing the European Union concerning its immigration policy and the security of its external borders.

According to a report published by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) in September 2014, more than 3000 people had already died in 2014 crossing the Mediterranean Sea, which made Europe the most dangerous destination for "irregular" migrants.

Another report released by Amnesty International told the EU to put more resources into rescuing migrants trying to cross the Mediterranean Sea. It also called for safe and legal routes to the EU for people fleeing crisis zones.
