The United Kingdom government introduced the European Union Referendum Bill 2015-16 into the UK Parliament on the 28 May 2015. The Bill makes provision for the holding of a referendum in the United Kingdom and Gibraltar on whether the United Kingdom should remain a member of the European Union. The precise question to be asked is: Should the United Kingdom remain a member of the European Union? This Bill had its second reading debate on 9 June 2015. MPs considered the European Union Referendum Bill in a Committee of the whole House (Committee Stage) on 16 and 18 June 2015. Having progressed through Committee stage, the Bill will now proceed to Report stage. The Minister for Europe, David Lidington, has stated that the Government will not programme the Report stage until the autumn of 2015.
