The UK Prime Minister David Cameron’s announcement on the 7 September 2015 that the British air force carried out a drone strike against a British jihadist in Syria over the summer of 215 marked a landmark moment. Britain’s action was a notable departure from the traditional European opposition to targeted killing, but it should not be seen as an isolated event. On the contrary, it is part of a broader trend whereby a number of European countries are increasingly looking towards military responses to terrorism overseas, of the sort that the United States has long employed. |
