Formal and informal meetings of the European Council in 2018: + Informal meeting of the EU27 heads of state or government, 23 February 2018 Heads of State and Government met on 22-23 March 2018 for a summit of the European Council. The meeting focused on economic affairs. The agenda includes the following topics: + Adoption of conclusions on issues relevant for jobs, growth and competitiveness; + Discussion on trade issues; + Debate on taxation, focusing on the digital economy; + Adoption of conclusions on the Western Balkans and discussion on the relations with Turkey; + Briefing on the implementation of previous conclusions from the European Council; The Art. 50 (EU27) format of the European Council reviewed the state of the Brexit negotiations, following the United Kingdom's EU withdrawal notification. It also adopted additional guidelines for the discussions. The Eurozone Member States also met for a parallel Euro Summit to discuss the long-term development of the economic and monetary union, including proposals such as the creation of a fiscal capacity for the eurozone. The European Parliament's plenary session held a debate on the outcome of this European Council summit on 18 April. |
