A team from the European Commission met with US officials in Washington on the 8 July 2013 for a pre-scheduled evaluation of the EU-US passenger name record (PNR) and the terrorist financial tracking programme (TFTP) agreements.

However, this routine event came in the context of revelations that US intelligence services snooped on EU citizens' Internet data and bug EU embassies, creating a tense atmosphere.
