EU tries to limit damage from Russian food embargo

In response to the Russian imposition of sanctions against imports of foodstuffs from the EU and other countries in August 2014 in the context of the Russian-Western dispute over Ukraine, the European Commission announced on the 8 August 2014 that it had established a Task Force to analyse the potential impacts food sector by sector, and to assess how the EU could provide meaningful support to the EU agricultural sector.

Agricultural experts from the EU's Member States were due to meet in Brussels on the 14 August 2014 to plan a coordinated strategy.
