The European Commission offered Denmark on 8 December 2016 continued partial access to Europol's database, regardless of the referendum outcome which voted against full membership of the police organisation. A separate agreement was necessary as new EU regulations come into force in May 2017. Under the draft agreement presented to Denmark's parliament, Danish police wouuld have indirect access to Europol's information system and would have to go through a liaison officer to run searches. The country would also have to remain a member of the Shengen zone, thus potentially finding opposition from some parties. |
