EU mulls introducing flight-tracking unilaterally

Following incidents like the disappearance of the Malaysia Airlines MH370 and the crash of an Air France aircraft in the Atlantic Ocean in 2009, global air regulators and airline industry increased the effort to agree on systems to track planes.

According to EurActiv, the European Commission was studying the possibility of coming up with a unilateral mandate to impose the use of such systems in the European Union, due to the slow pace of negotiations on a global scale.
