A quarter of gay people surveyed in a poll by the EU's Fundamental Rights Agency said they had been subjected to attacks or violent threats in the past five years. The FRA had surveyed 93,000 people in the EU and Croatia for what it called the most comprehensive survey of its kind. The results were published on the International Day against Homophobia and Transphobia, 17 May 2013. Separately, the Brussels-based NGO ILGA-Europe published in May 2013 its 2013 review of the human rights situation of gays, lesbians, bi-sexual, trans and inter-sex (LGBTI) people. It reported that equal rights for gays, lesbians, bi-sexual, trans and inter-sex (LGBTI) people was still patchy across Europe, with advances in some areas offset by discrimination, hate-speech, bullying and violence elsewhere. |
