During a meeting of the Justice and Home Affairs Council on 20 July 2015, member states failed to reach an agreement on how to distribute 40,000 asylum seekers across the European Union over the following two years, postponing the decision until the end of the year. While ministers at the meeting agreed to respect the indications of the June 2015 European Council by committing to the relocation of that number of migrants - forecast to arrive in Greece and Italy until 2017 - the exact numbers to be assumed by each member state was now set to be defined in another meeting in December 2015. |
