EU calls into question Germany’s brown coal compromise

According to media reports, the European Commission put into question Germany's plans to reform its electricity market.

The focus of its doubts remained in the alledged special treatment brown coal (lignite) power plants would receive as part of the plan to keep these as a back-up power provider. Such support could need approval from the European Union as it could be seen as a form of government aid.
